Born in Baghdad in 1972 and trained in medicine at Baghdad University, Munjed Al Muderis left Iraq and arrived in Australia as a refugee, rebuilding his career from nothing.
Today he is one of the most experienced osseointegration surgeons in the world. Since his first independent procedure in 2009 he has treated close to a thousand amputees, anchoring prosthetic limbs directly to the skeleton so that patients walk without a socket. His patients include military veterans and people from across the world who had exhausted every other option.
He is a Clinical Professor at Macquarie University, holds a Doctor of Medical Science for his work on osseointegration, has three patent families to his name, served twelve years as a Squadron Leader in the Royal Australian Air Force Specialist Reserve, and is the author of two memoirs.

- 1972 Baghdad Born in Baghdad. Educated at Baghdad College and Baghdad University (MB ChB).
- 1999 A new country Leaves Iraq and arrives in Australia as a refugee. Returns to medicine and begins surgical training.
- 2009 First osseointegration Performs his first independent osseointegration procedure. Fellowships at the Charité teaching hospitals in Berlin.
- 2010 Service and scale Macquarie University Hospital. Squadron Leader, RAAF Specialist Reserve (2010 to 2022). The Osseointegration Group of Australia grows into the world’s largest series.
- 2020 NSW Australian of the Year Recognised for services to medicine and community. Doctor of Medical Science awarded 2022.
- 2025 A global network Joins the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in Florida. Licensed in Abu Dhabi. The Office coordinates centres across four continents.

Direct skeletal attachment of prosthetic limbs. Freedom from the socket, restored proprioception, and a return to walking that many were told would never come.

Complex limb reconstruction
Salvage and reconstruction after trauma, infection and failed surgery. Deformity correction, bone transport and limb-length restoration.

Patients are assessed remotely and treated at the centre closest to them, or wherever their case is best served. The Office coordinates assessment, travel, accommodation and rehabilitation across the network so that every journey is seamless.
